You are invited to submit abstracts for consideration as a speaker at CodeRage 4. Please submit an abstract for each of your proposed presentations. Please read all information carefully.

Thank you for your interest. We are excited about hosting another CodeRage event and the participation of our community is vital to our success. We look forward to seeing your ideas!

CodeRage 4 Virtual Developer Conference

Presentation Details

Conference session time slots will be 60 minutes in length running a 45 minute pre-recorded technical presentation followed by 15 minutes of live questions and answers with attendees. Sessions will be broadcast using Microsoft® Live Meeting.

Speakers are required to pre-record their presentations to a 1024x768 resolution SWF (Flash) file using screen recording software such as Camtasia Studio (using the trail version is acceptable), Final Cut Pro or similar. Please refer to John Kaster’s blog post available at http://blogs.embarcadero.com/johnk/2005/03/04/2880 for helpful information on how to make Flash recordings.

We encourage speakers to also submit presentation outlines, PowerPoint slides (.ppt) and/or a technical paper with their final presentations as well.

IMPORTANT: Sessions will be of a technical nature and will not reflect marketing information unless submitted specifically as a Technology Partner Solution.

Target Audience

We anticipate approximately 2,000 CodeRage 4 virtual conference attendees which include developers from large corporations, government agencies, small and medium-sized companies, educators, and independent consulting businesses.

Attendees have a varied level of experience, and topics range from beginning to advanced levels. Selecting and gearing your presentation to a specific audience expertise level is very important, so please consider the level of your presentation proposals carefully.

Use of Proprietary Code

The primary purpose of conference presentations is to educate attendees on Embarcadero technologies and development techniques. Only under special circumstances will we accept presentations that demonstrate proprietary code or techniques, or rely upon proprietary products. If your presentation will contain anything you cannot share freely with the audience, please notify us in your abstract.

In a success story presentation, the code may be proprietary, but you must be prepared to fully explain all of the techniques you demonstrate, either in a technical paper or in response to questions from the audience. For a success story presentation, speakers must have permission from the end user/client to have their company named in their presentation, paper, conference advertising, and the conference agenda.

Speaker Meetings

An online speaker meeting will be held in August after acceptance of abstract proposals to familiarize speakers with the Live Meeting interface and to answer questions. Speaker meetings with small groups of speakers will also be held 1 week prior to the conference to test submitted presentations and audio connections. Speaker attendance is required.

Presentation Publication

IMPORTANT: Once selected, each speaker MUST submit their 45 minute pre-recorded presentation by the indicated deadline (see above).

All session presentations will be published on the Embarcadero Developer Network as replays. Examples of presentations from CodeRage III held in December 2008 are available at http://conferences.embarcadero.com/coderage/article/38874.

Embarcadero Technologies may choose to sell a conference proceedings DVD outside of this conference or to publish presentations in any media separately. Accordingly, submission of materials to Embarcadero will constitute your granting Embarcadero an irrevocable, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, distribute, modify, and sub-license your materials by any means including electronic distribution. All speakers are required to sign a release agreeing to the above.

Submitting Abstracts

Please note that the receipt of this Call for Papers or the submission of an abstract or presentation does not automatically qualify you as a speaker for this conference. We expect to receive many more abstracts than the number of session slots; therefore, not all candidates will qualify as speakers.

Abstract submissions should be emailed to Christine Ellis at christine.ellis@embarcadero.com prior to the due date of Monday, June 22, 2009 at 5:00pm Pacific Daylight (UTC-7).

IMPORTANT: Please be sure to request a delivery receipt from your email server when sending your email. If you do not receive a reply indicating we’ve received your submission, we probably haven’t.

Please include complete contact information so that we may reach you with any questions we may have on your abstracts and to contact you with the status of your submissions. For each abstract, please include as much detail as you can to help us make educated decisions on which sessions to accept. Incomplete submissions will be rejected.

Questions & Answers

CodeRage 4 will focus on what developers want and need to learn to stay current in our ever transforming industry. We've created this document to address some of the questions that may arise.

Q. When will the list of actual sessions be published?
A. A short list of sessions that are planned for the conference will be published in July after session selections have been finalized. The complete program listing will be published by late July.

Q. Who is making decisions regarding which topics will be included in the program and who will be chosen as speakers?
A. An internal selection committee comprised of Embarcadero employees representing each of the product groups will choose the topics to be covered and the speakers who will present them. We will notify submitters in early July regarding the status of their proposals.

Q. Can I submit abstracts for sessions that market my products?
A. Only Embarcadero Technology Partners will be selected to present a limited number of Technology Partner Solution sessions.

Q. If I’m selected as a speaker, will I get paid?
A. Sorry, speakers will not be paid a stipend for this event. Attendance to the event is free and we feel the exposure provided to speakers is invaluable.

Q. If I’m selected as a speaker, may I attend other sessions as well?
A. Yes. Speakers may attend any other presentations they wish.

Q. Are there plans for a live physical Embarcadero Conference in 2009 or 2010?
A. There are currently no plans for a live US conference in 2009. At this time, no information is available regarding plans for a live US conference in 2010.

We would love to receive your feedback and suggestions on how we can improve the technical program of this event. Please send your comments to David Intersimone (davidi@embarcadero.com) and Christine Ellis (christine.ellis@embarcadero.com).
