Mobile Java Update

Abstract: Sun Microsystems provides an update of Java adoption today in the mobile data products and services industries. Sun recently announced compelling new developer programs, training courses, tools and products for J2ME. The new Sun Developer Network Mobility Program, Unified Testing Initiative, new go-to-market services for developers, content site, MIDP 2.0 and JSR-185, new J2ME course offerings from Sun Education, and a look at the latest WTK version 2.1 are presented.

James Allen is senior product marketing manager for the J2ME Platform Group at Sun Microsystems, Inc. James leads the developer initiative and tools strategies for mobility at Sun Microsystems. Part of his product management responsibility is for the popular J2ME Wireless Toolkit product. He has also held various Java tools marketing roles at Sun Microsystems. Prior to the acquisition by Sun, he was the technical sales manager for the Pacific region with Forte Software, Inc. James has over 12 years of background and experience in the enterprise software industry. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. Dianna Yee-Stauffer is a senior marketing manager responsible for the Sun Developer Network Mobility Program at Sun Microsystems. Additionally, she is responsible for developer partner programs at Sun. Dianna has been at Sun for 15 years, working primarily in the area of product marketing for Solaris, developer software and tools, and developer programs. Ray Ortigas is an engineer in the Consumer and Mobile Systems Group at Sun Microsystems, focusing on enterprise mobility. He is a contributing author to the Java Series book, "Designing Enterprise Applications with the J2EE Platform", 2nd edition, published by Addison-Wesley.
